One of Africa's most unspoiled wilderness areas where some of the largest herds in southern Africa roam free and wild in vast game reserves. In Botswana, you experience a land of nature and endless horizons, blue skies, sunshine and cooling breezes. The human population here is particularly low, about 1.3 million people including the nomadic San or Bushmen of the Kalahari, and their impact on the land has been minimised. Those you do meet will welcome you with friendly smiles and will enthusiastically share with you their homeland and their knowledge.

All the large mammals of the continent can be found in Botswana; elephant, buffalo, red lechwe, lion and cheetah occur in good numbers and Botswana has the largest remaining population of the endangered African Painted Hunting Dog. Over 500 species of birds have been identified along with reptiles and smaller mammals.

From the wetlands and waterways of the Okavango Delta to the immense open spaces of the Makgadikgadi Pans as you travel through Botswana, you discover a land of contrasts. The nation's tourist policy aims to discourage crowds of backpackers or cheaper travellers in favour of a small exclusive numbers, so the lodges are well spaced and it is rare that you see vehicles other than those from your own lodge.

Activities are varied and this makes Botswana ideal for the first, second, third or more time visitor to Africa. Reach camp by light aircraft and then safari by vehicle, on foot, by motorboat, poling in a makoro canoe, ride a quad bike, a horse or even an elephant - the modes of transport in Botswana are a fun and fascinating part of the safari experience.
